From Sabrina Lolo of CBS 12, 08/20/2018:
Gov. Rick Scott requested the U.S. Small Business Administration issue an Economic Injury Disaster Declaration to help businesses impacted by algae blooms caused by federal water releases from Lake Okeechobee.
The declaration, which was announced Monday, will provide small businesses with low-interest loans so they can recover from the damage caused by these blooms, according to a press release. Scott requested this declaration for Lee and Martin counties. Once the SBA approves these counties, the state will quickly work to include other areas that have been impacted.
Scott issued an emergency order for red tide last week, and last month, Scott issued an emergency order for blue-green algae.
